The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
