The British tennis star earned the most notable victory of his career by rebounding from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had before beaten Alcaraz on two separate matches, this victory signifies Norrie's first ever win over a current world number one.

"Massive. So big for me," said Norrie, who joins as the latest UK male player in history to defeat a global number one. "Coming back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualifiers here. I just tried to enjoy my tennis in the latter part of the year. To achieve a triumph like this, it's the biggest victory of my tennis journey, my first win over the top player and probably the most confident competitor in the world right now."

Norrie, ranked No 31, also stopped Alcaraz's supreme streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive elite tournament wins, which marked the top run of outcomes in the Spanish star's developing professional path.
