Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
