The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
