Iran is willing to resume atomic discussions with the United States as long as it is approached with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi said only diplomacy produced results, and revealed recent overtures had originated from mediators to resume talks with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran possessed no unreported enrichment locations, and Iran could not yet authorize the global atomic watchdog to access struck enrichment centers for safety concerns.

Navigating a Challenging Course

The foreign minister is navigating a challenging course since Iran wishes not to be seen to be proceeding from a stance of weakness, and he consistently maintained that Iran had arisen more resilient militarily and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its enrichment centers in June.

He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the previous talks.

Earlier Talks Suddenly Ended

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and bitter conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, attacked Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that culminated with the American leader declaring the sites had been eliminated. Following this, Western states used their authority to restore UN-wide sanctions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.

Tehran representatives claimed they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could enrich uranium. The two nations would have been able to declare success since local refinement would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been decided in the discussions that US nuclear scientists could work on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion.
